Fixing Erratic Touchpads

Once in a while I run into some problems with my PC that I am successfully able to fix. However, one problem in particular has always given me hard time that is until I found an ingenious solution to the problem. So what was the problem and how I fixed it?

Well, as a laptop owner I depend on it for my work, study and entertainment. The lighter and less peripherals attached to your laptop the better and more mobile it will be. That's why I prefer to use the touchpad on my laptop instead of carrying a mouse where ever I go.

To make this story short, my touchpad mouse began to act erratically lately for no reason and the cursor would fly over the screen or respond slowly or do some crazy movements which would actually ruin what I'm doing.

After cleaning the touchpad and going through tips I found here and there online, the problem persisted. I even uninstalled the driver and tried different drivers but with no avail. I was ready to give up when suddenly it hit me.

No matter how hard you clean your touchpad with special cloth and liquids, the problem comes back. The dirt and grease from your hands and fingers build up on the touchpad and accumulate even though it looks perfectly clean.

The solution was to use the eraser on top of a pencil and wipe the touchpad vertically and horizontally for couple of times and then dust the debris with a piece of cloth or a soft brush.

Once all that grease is literally erased, you might sense the touchpad has a different feel under your finger, and that erratic movement is no longer there.

From now on I'll make it a routine to clean the touchpad with an eraser and even wash hands before using my laptop, after all cleanliness is next to Godliness.
